what an adventure! yesterday was a challenge getting to Guatemala. At every turn something was delayed. But, I felt the Lords presence and knew He was in control and that He had a purpose for having me travel alone. my plane leaving NC was cancelled, and I had to take a later plane with longer lay overs. I arrived in Guatemala at 10:30 pm their time. (12:30 am NC time)
Arriving at the "hotel" at 11pm. I am sharing a room with 3 other ladies. 1 of them heard me coming in and got up and gave me a hug. That was most welcome after a very long day! I slept well, woke up and began preparing for the day. We do have a bathrooom in our room, with toilet paper. NICE. My shower was turn on warm water, get wet, shut water off, lather up, rinse off. done. Each person is allowed a 3 minute shower. I was thankful for the warm water.
Breakfast was good, pancakes and fresh fruit. We divided up, 4 of us went with Dennis (an american missionary that is here fulltime) and two of his teenage daughters to deliver food to 4 orphanages. What a blessing. 50% of the population here is under 18 years old. I took pictures, downloaded them onto my laptop, but for some reason my laptop is not recognizing the USB wand for internet. So I am typing this on one of the team members laptop. :)
The team from PA is a neat group of people. I am blessed to meet them and work with them.
The other team members helped to build a brick wall around one of the orphanages, and also helped in the kitchen. Tomorrow and thurs we will be watching the kids at the orphanage. The teachers and house parents are all having a two day conference. I will be with the little ones 3-6 tomorrow and the babies up to 3 on thursday. ;) oh yes, i am blessed.
While touring this facility, we saw a ladt making 400 tortilla's by hand. she had a stove that she kept a fire in, she had a large ball of 'flour mixture' and she hand patted the patties and put them on the stove. I have pictures of her and alittle video too, but not able to share those right now.
I saw lots of police and security gaurds with guns as we drove to the different locations. One road we were on was a brick road, that was laid by hand. It was a long road up a winding mountain, ha, as many of them are. another road was washing away little by little, eventually they will not have a road there.
It is beautiful here, not a bad tempature, cloudy now, it rained for while earlier which cooled the tempature down some.
In talking with Dennis about some of the needs of the orphanages and ORI (Orphans Resources International whom I am here with) He mentioned a clinic for the children, that they need shelving and medicines. So, I am in prayer and ask you to join me, if this is what I should share the remainder of the monies with (from the sponsors of my mission trip).
I will write more tomorrow. I am very tired and have a headache, so please continue to pray for me during this trip.
In Him,
Kim
